We did it! This week was full of happy tears as we inaugurated President Biden and Vice President Harris. We have our first female Vice President. This is truly so amazing. This is especially exciting for me because VP Kamala Harris is half-Jamaican, and my parents are Jamaican. It’s a huge step forward in so many ways, and I am so excited to see what this new legislation brings.
In more personal news, my boyfriend and I are celebrating our one-year anniversary this weekend. It’s inspiring to see how much we’ve grown independently and as a couple over this last year. I’m excited to unwind together this weekend, go on a nice date, and watch some football.
Let’s get into what’s been catching my eye this week!
one | how to practice self-care at home…
Self-care is more than just face masks and pedicures. Anytime I do something for myself, it’s self-care. Sometimes that does look like a lengthy skincare routine, but other times, it means reviewing my budget or doing a 30-minute yoga video. These are some really great ideas to help you get to a better mood with self-care at home.
two | the youth poet laureate who stole the show…
If you haven’t heard Amanda Gorman speech from the inauguration, stop what you’re doing and watch it right now. This young lady is so eloquent and well-spoken. Her words inspired hope in a great time of need. I’ll be keeping my eye on her for sure. She’s going to change the world — maybe she already has.
three | a brush hair dryer…
On a lighter note, I’ve never been able to blow dry my hair. There, I said it. Revoke my membership to the women’s club. I workout every day, and while I know I shouldn’t wash my hair as frequently, it’s really hard not to when I’ve sweat from my session at the gym. I’m interested in trying out this hair dryer, and I wonder if anyone’s got any experience they’d like to share.
four | how to thrive based on your enneagram type…
The enneagram type is not the be-all, end-all for survival, but it sure is fun. If you don’t know, I’m an enneagram 1 wing 9, and I fully relate to the personality type. Find yours and figure out how you can “thrive” in this new year.
five | a comic book I never normally would have picked up…
I don’t normally read graphic novels, but every time I do, I’m always surprised by how much I like them. I picked up Watchmen because of a POPSUGAR challenge for 2021, and my boyfriend owned it, so it’s easy to read when I’m at his place. I’m hooked! It follows the downfall of a group of superheroes who disbanded and are being hunted down one by one by a mysterious force.
Happy adventuring,
Kimberly
