Top 5 Wednesday

So here’s the thing… I didn’t really like this weeks topic (favorite graphic novels), so I decided to go with my own. This week I will talk about my favorite movies that are also books.

Mazerunner

1. Mazerunner

loved this movie, but guess what…I hated the book. I read it as an adult after seeing the movie, and Dylan O’Brien just doesn’t transfer onto paper. The writing wasn’t that well done to me and it seemed like it was written for a much younger audience. But I love the plot line and really recommend that older readers watch the movie rather than read the book. (This is probably the only time I will ever say this.)

2. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

This book specifically was very well adapted into a movie. It’s the only screenplay that the characters are always wearing robes and wear their hats. It follows the plot line of the book spectacularly. And the kids are actually the right age. It’s pretty great.

Fight Club

3. Fight Club

I watched this movie before I read the book, and it helped me to understand the content of the book so much more. I think the movie traveled along with the book really well and I really enjoyed both formats of the story.

SLP

4. Silver Linings Playbook

This was an amazing movie and an even more amazing book. It delves into mental health issues and helps readers understand the thought that goes into actions when you struggle with your mental health. I definitely recommend this to anyone who has any interested in mental health.

5. The Perks of Being a Wallflower

This was one of the better done adaptations. I absolutely loved the character choices that were made and I thought it was very artfully created. I really love both this movie and book, and I think it’s very relatable for readers.

Do you have any favorite book-to-movie adaptations? Leave them in the comments below.

Happy reading,
Kimberly
