Catching My Eye,  Personal

Catching My Eye | 08.21.20

Whew! We made it! I don’t know about you, but this week was a crazy one for me. I had COVID-safe plans on Tuesday and Wednesday night this week, so it made it feel like a weekend right in the middle of the week even though I worked every day. It definitely made for a weird feeling week, so I’m ready to knock a lot of productive tasks off the list today in preparation for a fun-filled weekend.

Let’s get into what’s been catching my eye this week…

catching my eye

one | these really unique bookshelves to spruce up any space
I’ve been on a book-buying spree (oops), and I also plan on moving into my own space sometime soon, so I’m cataloging ideas for bookshelves/displaying books for when that time comes. I think the Billy Bookcase and the Leaning Bookcase are at the top of my list.

two | this new favorite tank-top from an environmentally-minded company
I go through spending phases, and August has definitely been a spend vs. save month. I order this cozy tank top the other week from an Instagram ad (target marketing works). I’m particularly interested in trying to spend my money with smaller companies that have a mission I can stand behind. This company’s mission is to inspire people to live a sustainable and mindful lifestyle, and its designs are printed with eco-friendly, water-based ink and they use sustainable materials in their products and packaging. They also give back 10 percent of profits to environmental organizations and animal rescues. I can’t wait to get this baby in the mail!

three | these helpful tips on setting realistic communication boundaries with friends
I am so bad at setting boundaries with my friends and family. I am so scared of telling people what I need in fear that they will think I am not giving them what they need. I liked these tips because they were realistic and focused on specific issues like communicating around news right now.

four | this think-piece on self-doubt
I like this article on self-doubt because it talks about the importance of listening to self-doubt every once in a while. This piece argues that self-doubt is important in helping us avoid mistakes, but it’s important to know when to listen to it and when to trust yourself.

five | these Bluetooth earbuds that have changed the game
I bought cheap, Bluetooth headphones when I got into running a few months back, but I never use them unless I am working out because the cord weirdly bothers me. I decided to invest in a wireless pair of earbuds, and these Jaba Elite headphones came highly recommended from friends. I got mine refurbished off of Newegg for an amazing deal, and they really work well so far!

six | the final book in the Throne of Glass series
I am making my way through Kingdom of Ash slowly but surely. It’s almost 1,000 pages, so I can read 200 pages in a weekend and still barely make a dent. I started Throne of Glass last September, so I’m hoping to finish this book in August to make a full year-long series read. If you don’t know, the Throne of Glass series is a high-fantasy series about a kick-ass woman who is enlisted to help the King after she wins a competition to be his assassin. I can’t really say much else since I don’t want to give spoilers, but readers go on a wild journey across eight books.

Happy adventuring,
Kimberly
