Catching My Eye,  Personal

Catching My Eye | 09.25.20

What a week! My mood went from the lowest-of-low to the highest-of-high over the last 14-ish days. I don’t know what’s in the water (probably a pandemic), but I am truly feeling better than ever. I know this is probably going to be short-lived because life is just a series of ups-and-downs, but I’m trying to enjoy it while I can. Something I think that’s really helped this mood is doing a quick 15-minute clean-up routine at the end of the night. I’ve started cleaning the kitchen (washing the dishes and wiping down the counters) and tidying my room (putting away clothes and shoes, for the most part) right before bed, and I don’t know how, but it’s definitely helped my mood! Give it a try!

Let’s get into what’s been catching my eye this week.

catching my eye

one | the storyteller app from morgan harper nichols…
I absolutely love this app. Like almost everything I’ve picked up in the last few years, I have Carly to thank. It’s a daily message from Morgan Harper Nichols herself. If you have an Instagram account, I’m sure you’ve seen her artistic posts and motivational messages on your feed. My favorite thing about this is that everyone can get something from it. It’s almost like a horoscope — it’s broad enough but specific enough that anyone can find meaning. She includes a daily word, affirmation, and journal prompt each day, and I’ve recently started responding to the journal prompt during my morning routine, and it’s definitely providing some perspective and grounding to each day. It’s $20 for a yearly subscription, but I can truly say it’s been worth it for me.

two | this cold brew from Target
Why did no one ever tell me how amazing cold brew was? I am a newly addicted convert — I cannot get enough. I’ve never been the biggest coffee fan, but this mocha blend tastes just like chocolate milk. I don’t love drinking my calories, but it’s perfect for when I need to kick-start my morning, or I’m in need of an afternoon pick-me-up. I’ve also recently fallen in love with the Salted Caramel Cream Cold Brew at Starbucks. 10-out-of-10 recommend.

three | the most anticipated fall book releases
I have SO MANY books on my TBR list right now, so I definitely don’t need to any to the growing pile on my floor, but if I were to pick up any books in the coming months, they would definitely be from this list.

four | concerned about the upcoming election? get all of your voting questions answered
The election is less than 40 days away! Make sure you’re registered to vote, understand how to mail in your ballet if that’s how you’re choosing to vote, or know where your polling location is. It’s so so so important to vote. Make sure you’re voice is heard.

five | this sequel that wears prada
I read The Devil Wears Prada earlier this summer, and I’ve just been waiting to read the sequel. I have the third installment When Life Gives You Lululemons on my bookshelf, but I feel like I’ll wait until spring to pick it up. So far, the sequel is much like the first book — not much happens, but it’s definitely building up to something. Andy and Emily have somehow become friends in the 10 years since their stints at Runway, they’ve started a successful wedding magazine together, and Andy is getting married. It seems like everything is coming together, but is Miranda Priestly just around the corner ready to ruin everything?

Happy adventuring,
Kimberly
