September Favorites

September has been a fantastic month for me full of friendship and new adventures. During the beginning of the month, I took a quick trip to North Carolina to visit a friend in Raleigh and a friend in Charlotte. Then, when I got back to Nashville, one of my best friends came to visit that I hadn’t seen in almost a year. It was so great to see all these old friends before jumping into a new job later in the month. I don’t want to say too much about it, but so far, I am really loving the transition and learning a lot! I haven’t done a favorites post in awhile, so some of these favorites have been things I’ve been loving for awhile, but let’s get started!

glasses with books and flowers in september

1. My Glasses
I’ve been wearing glasses since the 7th grade (I think), and when I got contacts in high school, it was a magical day in my teenage life. Now that I have to pay for those contacts? I’m back on the glasses train. Contacts are expensive my friends, and glasses really do serve as an added accessory sometimes. When I got a new pair of glasses back in March, I decided to take my time and pick the perfect frames. I scoured through GlassesUSA.com (highly recommend) before finding the perfect pair. This was actually an investment for me (even though they were relatively cheap). I typically wear my glasses three-five times a week, and I honestly love how they compliment my face.

2. Riverdale
I did it. I finally watched Riverdale. That’s right. I didn’t start watching Riverdale. I watched it. All two seasons in about a week and half. And, it’s safe to say, I’m pretty obsessed. I never read the Archie comics much, so I don’t really know or care about the connections between the two, but I love the story for what it offers. It’s definitely a bonus that every time Cole Sprouse comes on screen I swoon, and I support the relationship between Jughead and Betty so much. There’s honestly so much to love about Riverdale, but I don’t want to ruin anything for people that are planning to watch later or are currently in the midst of seasons on Netflix. My friend and I have already decided to host mini-watch parties with each other when the next season airs at the beginning of October.

iced soy vanilla latte in september

3. Ice Soy/Almond Milk Vanilla Lattes
I had a friend visit Nashville back in July when I was first trying to stay dairy-free, and this is when the Iced Soy Vanilla Latte obsession began. The majority of our time was spent in coffee shops working/reading while he was in town, so I decided to try out this new to me beverage. Surprise! I loved them. BUT, I recently found out that soy milk can cause you to have skin issues (which I was experiencing and seriously stumped by since I had never had issues with acne before in my life). When I was in Charlotte, my friend Alyssa told me about how she breaks out when she drinks soy milk, and it finally clicked for me. I’m going to switch to almond milk as my dairy-free milk of choice (which is what I have been using for about three years at home). It makes the drink just a little bit sweeter, but you get used to it, and it’s not too overpowering.

4. My Favorite Murder
If you’re going to judge me for this, you can leave now. My Favorite Murder is a podcast hosted by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark that talks about murder. It’s a true crime, comedy podcast where Georgia and Karen talk about different murders ranging from small, hometown cases to national serial killers. It’s weirdly fascinating, and it’s teaching me so much about how to keep myself safe from anything like this happening to me. If you’re into true crime, I highly recommend, though you may want to be a little careful about listening at work.

library card in september

5. The Library
If you haven’t noticed, I try to live my life on a pretty tight budget, so buying tons of books every month really isn’t possible for me. I recently got a library card, and I’m obsessed. My dad has been trying to get me back into using the library since I stopped when I was about 14, and I have to admit, he was onto something. I’m really lucky because Nashville has over 15 branches that I can use my library card at. I can also request books online and quickly grab them when I stop in. I also get to have books out for THREE WEEKS (this seems like a really long time to me, please let me know if my excitement is unwarranted). Sometimes I have a hard time committing to buying books I want to read but I may not like, and the library is the perfect way to test out some books before fully committing to a purchase. Now, I’m trying to save buying books for books I know I will reread or want to take notes in.

6. J.Crew Factory
Like I mentioned, I started a new job a couple weeks ago, and with that job came a whole new work dress code. I haven’t worn high-end business casual in quite some time, so my wardrobe definitely needs some updates. I recently made a smallish purchase at J.Crew Factory, and I’m in love with every piece I got! From a more casual yet business appropriate top to a blazer, each piece fits perfectly and everything is so comfortable. I’ve always hated spending too much money on clothes (bloggers that only post pieced over $200 are my least favorite kind of people), but I know that clothes (business pieces especially) should sometimes be an investment. J.Crew Factory is probably where I am most comfortable price wise because the quality is still there in the pieces but things are rarely over $100 — and I always shop when there is a sale going on.

That’s it for my September favorites! Let me know what you’ve been loving recently in the comments below!

Happy adventuring,
Kimberly
