Catching My Eye | 08.07.20

Everyone wish Maggie a happy birthday! I understand it’s incredibly extra of me to through my cat a birthday party (my roommate and I got fancy cake — it wasn’t really a party), but we all need something to look forward to during this ongoing pandemic, right? Aside from Maggie’s birthday, this week was very, very quiet. Client work has slowed down a ton, and I’ve settled into a good rhythm of dinner and TV/reading at night. I also gave my body a much-needed break and worked out less this week subbing in my normal HIIT workouts for more leisurely walks. All in all, it was a much needed “quiet” week, and I’m excited to kick-it-up again next week. Let’s get into what’s been catching my eye this week!

catching my eye

1// These habits that will change your life
I love these easy habits to adopt to make your life just a little bit better. Some of the best habits I’ve adopted are making my bed every morning, giving myself deadlines, and tidying up my room before bed. Some habits I want to adopt are organizing my to-do list by life goals, sitting up straight (so easy, yet so hard), and donating $5 a month to a new organization I care about.

2// This summer reading list
Summer might be coming to a close, but I’m going to turn this into a pandemic reading list. I’ve been reading a ton lately, and I just placed a huge order online for some books I’ve both already read and want to read. From this list, I’m looking forward to reading The Vanishing Half, In a Dark, Dark Wood, Beach Read, and honestly so many other books. It’s such a good list y’all.

3// This gold ring I’ve been hunting down for forever
I’ve been hunting down a dainty gold ring for almost a year now, and I think I finally found it! I didn’t want to spend a ton of cash, but I want something that lasts. I’ve heard amazing things about this company, so I went for it and got a very basic, angled gold ring.

4// The short story that grew in Normal People
Normal People is one of my favorite books, and I loved this short story that helped Sally Rooney get the idea to write it.

5// This book examining white supremacy
I’ve been digging into Me and White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad this week. It’s a great book for anyone really looking to reflect and examine their privilege and how they can be a better human in regards to uplifting Black voices. It’s a 28-day challenge where you tackle a new topic each day related to white supremacy and answer prompts to help you better understand your past actions and how you can be better in the future. It’s truly eye-opening.

Happy adventuring,
Kimberly
