Catching My Eye | 6.21.19

Hey friends, it’s been a while! I took last week off because I was planning not one, not two, but three events. I’m happy to announce they went super well, but it definitely took a toll on me. I felt like I was underwater for the whole rest of the week, and I was exhausted for the entirety of this week. Hopefully, I can take this weekend to rest up and get ready for some other big life changes coming my way. Last week, I had two big events for work that I coordinated and hosted, and then I helped host a large gala event at the zoo for a Nashville organization I’m a part of. The night was super great, and I think everyone at all the events had a fantastic time. This week was a little mellower, but still a bit crazy. I’m so thankful for the life I have in Nashville because, at this time last year, I never would have thought my life would be like this, but sometimes I do have to take a time out. I went to a baseball game on Tuesday and met some new friends and celebrated a good friends birthday on Wednesday complete with a Barbie cake, so I’m ready to curl up with a good book this weekend and check out for a little bit. Let’s get into what’s been catching my eye this week…

1. This helpful guide to building a self-care kit to fight anxiety and depression
I love this little guide to recognizing how to cope with and manage anxiety and depression. I feel like, during the winter months, we are all super aware of self-care because we want to spend time indoors cuddled up under a blanket. During the summer months, when there are so many fun outdoor activities to partake in, it can be harder to recognize when we need time alone to recharge and care for ourselves. This self-care toolkit for anxiety and depression is a handy little thing to have in your pocket for when you don’t know how to handle yourself and your feelings.

2. These healthy salad options for lunch at work
I’m trying, keyword trying, to eat healthier, and this salad has been my go-to for an easy, healthy workday lunch.

3. This adorable midi-skirt
I just cleaned out my closet (YAY) and donated/sold all of the clothes I didn’t want, so I’m trying to only add things to my wardrobe that I don’t already have or could see myself wearing for the next five years. This skirt is one of those items. It’s modest, it’s classic, it’s black, and it has a bow. What else would I need?

4. This article with tips for introverts working on a team

Hi, hello, did you know I was an introvert? I’m very open about the fact that I need to introvert sometimes (Sorry, friends!), but it’s really hard to do that at work. This article was super helpful for me in terms of working on a team, but also just for working in an open office in general. If you’re struggling in your office space, give this article a read.

5. This book about growing up, getting older, and trusting your gut
I finished Alyssa Mastromonaco’s second book earlier this week, and it honestly was everything I was looking for in the first book. I thought her first book, Who Thought This Was A Good Idea?would be more about her specific experiences working with Obama, but it was really just a memoir, which was fine. This book, So Here’s the Thing.., was exactly what I was expecting. It’s like Amy Poehler-lite. It’s funny, charming, and chock-full of good advice for readers of all ages.

Happy adventuring,
