Top 5 Books To Read To Get In The Christmas Spirit

I have a bit of a confession to make. I think I’m a bit of a Scrooge! My friend asked me the other day what my favorite Christmas songs and movies were, and I didn’t really have an answer. I honestly dislike Christmas music a lot (it’s too repetitive for me), and I haven’t watched nearly enough cheesy Christmas movies in my lifetime. I think as I’ve gotten older, I’ve grown to appreciate the cheesy cheer and romantic plotlines, and I even have plans this weekend (with myself) to watch all the new Netflix originals including, but not limited to, The Princess Switch, but in the past, it’s never really been my…

Top 6 Books To Give As Christmas Presents

Christmas is just around the corner (Happy Hanukkah to those that celebrate!), and my favorite gift to give is, of course, books. There are a myriad of reasons as to why I love giving books to my friends and family: 1) It’s easy. 2) There’s something for everyone. 3) I get to share my passion with others. 4) Books. Do I need any other reasons? I’m not sure exactly what I’m getting everyone on my list this year, but I’m sure a few books will be thrown in to the mix. This week, I’ve cultivated a list of the top books to give as Christmas presents. Let’s get started!

Top 5 Books I’m Thankful For

I have so much in my life to be thankful for, so I figured I would continue the trend of sharing what I’m thankful for into this week. I had a lovely Thanksgiving last week with friends and family, and I’m still working my way through leftovers as I write this post. Is there anything better than Thanksgiving leftovers? I don’t think so. I have so many books to be thankful for because of what they taught me about the world and about myself, but I narrowed this weeks post down to the top 5 books I’m thankful for. Let’s get started!

    Top 5 Villains in Novels

There’s nothing better than a good bad character, otherwise known a villains. In my head, the word “villain” is a little too strong — I immediately think of wicked witches and murders rather than characters in books, so this post took me a little out of my comfort zone. Needless to say, there are some villains I love to hate in the books I’ve read. I thought October would be perfect to talk about these bad to the bone characters we just can’t get enough of. Let’s get started! Image from Amazon 1. Amy Dunne; Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn Gone Girl is one of my favorite thrillers, and that’s all because of…

    Top 5 Horror Novels

October is the perfect month to break out those creepy, chill-inducing books you have tucked away on your shelves, so I’m here this week to bring you a list of five horror novel recommendations. I hate horror movies, but for some reason, I can read horror novels and not get too freaked out. I haven’t read too many in my time, but I’ve added quit a few horror and true crime books to my list lately, so I figured I’d share some books I had read and some I hadn’t that are perfect for the spooky season. Let’s get started! Image from Barnes and Noble 1. The Shining by Stephen King The Shining was the…

Top 5 Fiction National Book Award Nominees

I’ve recently gotten very into checking out book award nominees to add some more depth to my reading list. The National Book Award Longlist came out on September 13, and I immediately added seven books to my list. The National Book Award was established in 1936, but was abandoned during WWII. The first award was given in 1950, and eligible nominees are books written and published in the US. It’s a highly sought after award with a whole lot of history, so I know when I add a book to my list from these nominations, it’s going to be good. I focused my top 5 national book award nominees on the…

Top 7 Books to Read This Fall

After living in Southwest Florida until I was 18-years-old, experiencing my first fall was earth-shattering. It might have only lasted a few weeks, but feeling that crisp air and being able to wear boots comfortably was a magical experience. Spring is still my favorite season because I love the idea of new possibilities, but fall is definitely a close second. There’s nothing like breaking out your sweaters after a long summer or cracking open a good book near a fire. I’ve got a list of seven books to read this fall. Let’s get started!

Top 5 Books About Mental Health

Today is National Suicide Prevention Day. September is National Suicide Prevention Month. A lot of crazy things have been going on in our world, and rising rates of suicide should not be one of those things. I’m not going to pretend to be an expert on how to talk about mental health — I’m not — but I think it’s an important conversation to have. As a society, we are slowly breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health, and we need to keep breaking down those walls by having conversations about anxiety, depression, self-harm, and so much more. One of the ways I educate myself on mental health is to…

Top 7 Fall 2018 Book Releases

Despite it feeling like a desert in Nashville this past weekend, I’m told fall is just around the corner. I’m still a little skeptical, but I’m excited for a new season nonetheless. With a new season, of course, comes a new set of books being released! I recently had a friend ask me what was on my to-be-read list, and I laughed because there are just so many books in the world I want to read. So, why not add seven more to the list? Some say I have a problem, I say I have goals. There are so many amazing books coming out this fall, but these are the…
