Top TV Shows to Watch Based on Books

I promise this post isn’t sponsored by Netflix. I don’t watch a ton of TV because most of my free time is spent reading, but when I do, I’m a big binge-watcher. During quarantine, my boyfriend and I have been watching shows together, switching off who gets to pick what we are watching next, and it got me thinking about all of the amazing TV shows based on books. There are so many out there, but these are the ones I’ve personally watched. Let’s get started! one | Gossip Girl Gossip Girl is such a classic television series, and it’s the perfect time to binge the series. The television series is…

Top 10 Fall Book Releases of 2020

As a nation, we are all embracing fall like we never have before. Bring on the Pumpkin Spice Lattes, autumn-scented candles, cozy blankets, and sunflower decor. We have arrived, and we are thriving. I feel like we all need a change, and since fall is arguably the best season, we are soaking it up for all it is worth. That being said, obviously, my favorite thing about fall is all the amazing new books being released. Let’s get started… one | The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton I recently read and loved The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, so I knew I had to read Stuart Turton’s latest release. Samuel…

    Best Books from Female Authors

Happy Women’s Equality Day! Today celebrates the adoption of the 19th amendment which gave women the right to vote. Now, it would be remiss if I didn’t mention that not all women were granted the right to vote on this day 100 years ago, but it was a small step in the right direction. Small steps turn into giant leaps eventually (I hope). I wanted to celebrate some of my favorite female authors and authors I hope to read more from. I have so many female authors I love, so I left a little list of honorable mentions at the bottom of this post. Let’s get started… Books I’ve Read one | The Great Believers by…

The Best Books to Satisfy Wanderlust

We all had big plans for 2020. We were going to travel, get in shape, read that book that’s been sitting on our shelf for years. Instead, a lot of us are eating to cope with our emotions, staring out our windows longingly at the outside world, and just praying for 2020 to come to a close. While we may not be able to do a lot of the things we planned on, especially travel, we can still make the best of 2020. Personally, I’ve never worked out more in my life or read as many books. If you’re yearning for a trip around the world, might I recommend these…

Top 5 Books of 2020 Thus Far

I’ve read a total of 44 books so far this year. That is an insane amount of books for me, so at least COVID was good for something, right? While I’ve read a lot of books, I haven’t read a lot of 5 star reads this year — I’ve mostly been looking for an escape, which isn’t a bad thing, but it hasn’t brought me many jaw-dropping books, unfortunately. I thought I’d round up the top five books I’ve read this year, in hopes that I add some more amazing reads to the list before the end of the year. 1// The Arc of a Sythe Series by Neil Schusterman…

Books to Read During Pride Month

Happy Pride Month! If you don’t know, Pride Month is celebrated every year in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan which served as the tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the US. I’ve compiled a list of books I have either read or heard were great books that feature LGBTQ characters or were written by people who identify as such. Let’s get started! 1// Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz Aristotle and Dante don’t fit in. Aristotle is angry at the world, and Dante is a know-it-all. But when the two meet at the pool one summer, an…

Books to Read by Black Authors

Our work is not done. I was really mad last week. I hope you were, too. I was mad about the injustices in this country. I was mad about people not understanding the power in their words and actions. And I was mad that I had previously been a part of the problem. I am listening, learning, and growing just like a lot of people in this country, and I am committed to staying mad until things change. I compiled a list of reading recommendations based on books I’ve read and books I’ve heard are amazing and want to read. I’ve also separated it by non-fiction and fiction because it’s…

    Beach Read Recommendations

It is officially summer in Nashville, and while I can’t really get to a beach from here, I’ve definitely been soaking up the rays in parks all across town. I’m still social-distancing, but hanging out with friends six-feet apart in a park has been the perfect way to catch up. I’ve also been loving bringing my books along and getting a few pages in while also getting a little vitamin D. Here’s a list of my favorite beach reads. Let’s get started! 1// The Unhoneymooners by Lauren Christina I couldn’t have picked a better beach read than this hilarious rom-com by writing duo, Lauren Christina. The Unhoneymooners follows Olive and Ethan, sworn…

    Anticipated Summer 2020 Book Releases

The weather seems to finally be warming up for good here in Nashville, and I am stoked for my summer reading lists. Everything seems to slow down in the summer, and I expect this year to be no different. Even though things are slowly opening up here, I think it’s still going to be a slow summer with more outdoor hangs and fewer nights down on Broadway. That obviously means more books being read! Here are a few books I’m excited to pick up once they are published this summer. Let’s get started! 1// A Burning by Megha Majumdar After a terrorist attack on a train in Indian, Jivan, PT Sir, and…

    Top 10 Quarantine Book Recommendations

I don’t know about all of you, but Nashville is still shut down for the most part. We are reopening in phases and staying at home as much as possible is still highly encouraged, so I figured it was still appropriate to share a list of books to read while stuck social distancing. This list is compiled of books I read in days and got lost in. It’s all stories that spoke to me in different ways and inspired me somehow. Let’s get started! 1// The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo takes place in modern-day New York as Monique writes about the life…
