Top 10 Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in 2010. It’s a fun way for bloggers all over the Internet to connect and post the things they love about books. I know I posted a few weeks ago about my favorite quotations, but here I am again with another post all about my favorite quotes from the last year or so. 1. “Figure out what you want. Say it loud. Then shut up.” Amy Poehler — Yes Please This is one of the best pieces of advice I have ever received from a book. Amy speaks to me. Never be ashamed of what you want — if…
Treasure Tuesday
1. I am currently reading “Asshole: A Theory” by Aaron James. 2. This is your yearly reminder to go to the dentist (even if it’s your least favorite place in the world) and avoid my fate of having two cavities filled on the same day and getting a root canal for Christmas. 3. 4. After the week I have experienced at my university, and the weekend Paris and the world faced, we definitely need this list of books from Buzzfeed that is guaranteed to restore our faith in humanity. Terrible things happen in the world, all we can do is come together and unite as a stronger force after they…
Subliminal: A Review
Title: Subliminal: How Your Unconscious Mind Rules Your Behavior Author: Leonard Mlodinow Genre: Non-Fiction Quotation: “That realization doesn’t bother me; it gives me a greater appreciate of my unseen partner, my unconscious, always providing the support I need as I walk and stumble my way through life.” Would recommend to: people who are introspective about their behavior / readers who want to branch out from fiction This is one of the first books I’ve read that has no story-line. I usually stick to the fiction side of the bookstore, but I am really happy I chose to sneak out of my comfort zone with this choice. While I was reading this book, I had a…
Top 5 Wednesday: Books I Never Finished [OOPS!]
Today I’m going to be confessing yet another book faux-pas — Sometimes I’ve started books…and never finished them. BUT I WILL. One day. Eventually. When I muster up the courage to pick it up again and actually finish it. Here’s my shameful list. 1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen I almost finished this one! And then sophomore year of college started. I promise I’ll get around to it. Hopefully over Thanksgiving break! 2. The Great Gastby by F. Scott Fitzgerald I’ve seriously been meaning to read this classic since high school. I’ve started it many a time, but I’ve just never gotten into it. I will keep trying though, I…
Top 10 Tuesday: Book to Movie Adaptations
Top 10 Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in 2010. It’s a fun way for bloggers all over the Internet to connect and post the things they love about books. Today I’m going to talk to ya’ll about book to movie adaptations. It’s not going to be in the typical sense though. I’m going to let you guys in on a secret… [I haven’t really read all the books in the world.] Here are some books I really want to read that I’ve already seen the movie for. 1. American Sniper by Chris Kyle I watched this with my roommates over Fall Break. It was incredibly powerful,…
Treasure Tuesday
I am currently (finally) reading “All the Bright Places” by Jennifer Niven. 2. 3. Here’s a list of young adult novels brought to you by the one and only Buzzfeed. It promises to diversify your bookshelf. I’ll definitely be adding these to my list! 4. My roommate showed me this awesome post about gifts for grammar nerds. Check it out. I’ll definitely be asking for #1 for my birthday. 5. I really want this coloring book! Happy reading, Kimberly
Friday Night Lights : A Review
Title: Friday Night Lights Author: H. G. Bissinger Genre: Non-Fiction Quotation: “Odessa is the setting for this book, but it could be anyplace in this vast land where, on a Friday night, a set of spindly stadium lights rises to the heavens to so powerfully, and so briefly, ignite the darkness.” Would recommend to: football fans who don’t normally like to read. I finished “Friday Night Lights” last evening — it was phenomenal. Since I just finished it, I’m also going to include three initial thoughts. 1. Texas is football crazy! You don’t believe it until you see it, or at least read 300 pages about it. I had watched “Friday Night Lights” on…
Top 10 Tuesday: Debut Authors
Top 10 Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in 2010. It’s a fun way for bloggers all over the Internet to connect and post the things they love about books. This weeks topic was to cover our favorite debut authors whose second books we just couldn’t wait to read. To make it my own, I’ve decided I’m going to cover debut authors I want to read that I haven’t had the chance to read yet. 1. Catherine Lacey Her debut novel “Nobody is Ever Missing” has been highly acclaimed by the Wall Street Journal and New Yorker. She seems like an up-and-coming author that no one should miss out…
Treasure Tuesday
I had an amazing time in Texas this past weekend and learned so much about journalism, design and everything in between. I’m so happy I was afforded this amazing opportunity and I am very excited to bring everything I learned back to my organization. 2. I am currently breezing through “Friday Night Lights” and should be done by the end of the day! 3. *Person 4. It’s a brand new month! And that means some recommendations for what to read during this month from your one and only Buzzfeed. Check it out. I’m really interested in recommendation #4. 5. Let this “perfect” One Direction song brighten your day. If it’s rainy…
The Book That Had Me at the Edge of My Seat
Title: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Author: Steig Larson Genre: Fiction Quotation: “Everyone has secrets. It’s just a matter of finding out what they are.” Would recommend to: anyone who enjoys “Gone Girl” or a mystery to unravel Now I see why everyone raves about this book. Larsson did a phenomenal job of combining various plot lines and sub-stories into one novel that intertwined in the end. I really enjoyed how every occurrence in the book connected in some way to the larger plot line, and I thought he did an amazing job of dividing the book to maintain order. “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” isn’t really about a girl with a dragon…
