Happy belated move-in weekend, Elon! I can’t believe it’s been six (SIX) years since I stepped foot on my alma mater’s campus for my first day of school. If you would have told me on that day where I would be now, I never would have believed you. While I’m perfectly content being in the real world, I do think back from time-to-time on what it would be like to do school all over again. What would I do differently? The same? Everything happens for a reason, so I would never change anything about my experience, but I can impart some wisdom on the new kids on the block. Whether…
Catching My Eye | 8.23.19
This week was a looonnng one. You might have noticed since I missed a post on Wednesday (I’m sorry!). I thought it would be more manageable, but I ended up scheduling way too many things — again. Oh well, at least it’s the weekend! Something I wanted to touch on this week is the importance of your network. Your personal and professional networks are so important to your development. This week along I reached out to a professional connection to help me get a leg up in my career, and I reached out to my personal network (friend) to help me better understand a certain situation I’m experiencing. It took…
Top 5 Books to Turn into Movies
This past weekend was so much more relaxing than anticipated. I was house/dog sitting about 30 minutes out of Nashville, so I spent most of my weekend up there watching movies on the couch. It reminded me of how much I actually enjoy movies, and it got me thinking about what books I would like to see turned into movies. Typically, I’m in the camp of “the book is better than the movie,” but sometimes, sometimes they are both great in their own way, and I think these books could land in that camp if they were made into movies. I read all of these books (or parts of the…

What a long week this has been! I didn’t start off on the best foot since I went to bed kind of late on Sunday, but by Wednesday I had kind of given up on waking up for my workouts this week anyways, so I embraced the later nights and “sleeping in” without giving myself too hard of a time. I’ll pick back up next week! I think this type of kindness toward ourselves is so important — we can’t always hit the workouts or complete the self-care exercises, all we can do is our best. That’s what I did this week — my absolute best. I’ve been pouring a…
Top 5 Tips to Help You Save Money
One of my goals of 2019 was to become an expert on my personal finances. A lot of that has had to do with finding a budget that works for me, and sticking with it. I’ve read a lot of personal finance books so far this year, but the best one I’ve read so far is I Will Teach You to be Rich. It’s basically a game plan of how to start saving money from paying off any debt you may have to investing in a Roth IRA. If you’re a money beginner like me, I highly recommend giving it a read. Money is one of our biggest stressors in life,…
Favorite Book Quotes
I’ve always loved a good quote. I feel like if I’m going through something, whether it’s good or bad, I can always find a quote that perfectly encapsulates how I’m feeling. I’ve gotten into the habit of adding to my notes in my phone every time I come across a quote in a book I like, so I thought I would share a few. Each quote means something different to me and reminds me to make the most of what I have. Let’s get started! 1. “I’m under absolutely no obligation to make sense to you.” — Evelyn Hugo, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo 2. “Happiness can be found, even…

Another week in the books! This week was especially fantastic because I got a cat! I’ve been talking about getting a cat for so long that some of my good friends already thought I had a cat. I brought home the precious nugget below on Saturday, and she’s just the cutest little cuddle bug already. I love being a cat mom, and I’m so glad I have her in my life even if she tries to sleep on my face. Her name is Maggie courtesy of my roommate (who I’m slowly turning into a cat person). Other than having a snuggle butt sharing my bed now, I caught up with some friends…
Summer Favorites 2019
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think summer might be almost over. It stays hot in Nashville until mid-late October, but I’m already craving leggings and oversized sweaters. That being said, I’ve really fallen into love with a few things over the past couple of months, so I thought I would share my thoughts on my summer favorites. Let’s get started! 1. Winnie-the-Pooh Mug I have been absolutely loving this mug. My brother and his girlfriend brought it back for me from their trip to Disney a few months ago, and it’s quickly become my favorite mug in my ever-growing collection. I use it every night when I…
Top 5 Booker Prize Longlist Nominees
The Booker Prize Longlist was announced two weeks ago, and I’m here to give my top five picks from the lot. The Booker Prize is an award given to the best novel of the year written in English and published in the UK and Ireland. It’s a life-changing award that’s been given out for over 50 years. I try to read at least one winner every year, but there are seriously so many amazing novels from these lists that it’s hard to get to all of them. Here are my top five Booker Prize nominees from the 2019 longlist. Let’s get started. Image from Amazon 1. My Sister, the Serial…

I don’t know about you, but I’m excited to sleep this weekend! This week ended up being surprising busy, and I didn’t get nearly enough shut-eye — even with skipping a few workouts. The most exciting part of my week was probably mounting my TV. My friend came over to do it for me — my handy skills do not include the use of power tools — and we had all sorts of problems finding the studs and situating the TV at the right height. All in all, it took about four hours with a little dinner break, but now my TV is nice and sturdy (cross my fingers) on…
