    Top 5 Wednesday: Fictional Items

This weeks Top 5 Wednesday is all about the fictional items I wish I could have. I know this is going to be a hard one to narrow down, so let’s get started! 1. An invisibility cloak from Harry Potter Nothing would be better than being able to disappear from society but still being able to participate in a way. I could people watch without interruption and curl up in my favorite chair for hours without being disturbed — unless people tried to sit on me, now that would be a problem. I could definitely pull some Fred and George Weasley worthy pranks with this thing on. 2. Flying carpet from 1,001 Nights While…

Top 5 Wednesday: Poor Love Interests

Today’s top 5 is dedicated to the love interests in books we absolutely hate. I decided to pair them up and talk about the couples I could do without in my novels. Here’s what I’ve got for you: 1. Edward and Bella from Twilight Honestly, there is no relationship worse than Edward and Bella’s. She falls in love with him because he’s pretty, and he falls in love with her because her blood smells good. Really? This is what young girls are supposed to aspire to? Their relationship is unhealthy and codependent and this should not be an example of desirable love to a young girl/boy. (Or any girl/boy for that matter.)…

    Top 5 Wednesday: Spoiler Alert

This week is all about those books that were completely spoiled for you, but you read anyways! Personally, I don’t care when things are spoiled for me because I love the journey, but I understand people who hate spoilers. Let’s get started! 1. Planet of the Apes by Pierre Boulle I watched the movie before I read the book (oops)! 2. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien I only saw the third installment of the movie, but it hooked me and actually got me to read the book! 3. Harry Potter and the Half-Prince by J.K. Rowling My brother actually ruined this one for me WHILE I was reading it. Here’s how it went down:…

    Top 5 Wednesday: Badasses

Have you ever been really excited to read a beautiful book you found in the corner of a bookstore only to find out it’s terrible? We all have. This week I’m going to talk about the baddest of the bad — the characters who just embody “BADASS.” To me, a “badass” means you go against the grain without a care in the world and everyone kind of loves you for it. Here are my favorites: 1. Jace Wayland — The Mortal Instruments Jace was most likely the first true “bad boy” I ran into in my reading endeavors. I read The Mortal Instruments when I was much too young and impressionable and…

    Top 5 Wednesday: Buzz Words

This Top 5 Wednesday is all about the words. Nope, not the words in the books, but the words that get you to buy the books. You know what words I’m talking about — the buzz words on EVERY book cover that make you think, “Oh my god, I do have to read this book or my life will not be complete.” Let’s get started! 1. “Brilliantly Defies” or “Standout” Any book worth reading, according to book jacket authors, is a “standout” on the shelves or “brilliantly defies” the genre it belongs to. There’s always that one-in-a-million book (PSST “All the Bright Places”) that really does this buzzword justice, so…

    Top 5 Wednesday: Fandoms

Happy new year! We are starting this year off right with a discussion about our favorite fandoms. I really don’t consider myself as a part of any fandom since I don’t actively participate in them, but I obviously do enjoy a lot of series books. Here are my favorite fandoms in no particular order. 1. Harry Potter I think I’ve talked about it enough that you all know I’m pretty into Harry Potter (I even went to The Wizarding World for my birthday!). I’ve read all the books at least 10 times. I’ve read them in ascending and descending order. I’ve read them on planes and in trains. I’ve owned…

Top 5 Wednesday: Books of 2015

I can’t believe this year is almost over! It truly feels like 2015 flew by in the wink of an eye. But that just means I have a whole new year coming up with fun and exciting things to do! (And fun and exciting books to read!) This weeks Top 5 Wednesday is dedicated to the best books I read in 2015.(I did a Top 10 Tuesday a couple of weeks ago. Check it out! ) Here we go! 1. Yes Please by Amy Poehler By far one of the best books I’ve ever read. I recommend it to anyone that will listen to me and should probably read it again just…

Top 5 Wednesday: Series I Want to Start

Christmas is THREE days away! And with that only nine days until the new year! With that being said, this week’s Top 5 Wednesday is dedicated to the series I want to tackle in 2016. Let’s get started! 1. Game of Thrones I’ve been hesitant to start these since I know they aren’t done yet, but I think 2016 is the year for me to finally get into this book, as well as the TV series. (I’m thinking of binge watching it in January.) 2. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy I have the entire series compiled into one book and looking at it is actually terrifying. It’s quite the…

Top 5 Wednesday: Reading by the Fire

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! That means curling up next to the fire (whether it be real or digital) with the best books and passing the time in the only acceptable way before the craziness of the holidays. This week is dedicated to those books that are perfect for reading on a cold, winter day. 1. The Favorite This is the most acceptable time to pick up that book people are always surprised you are re-reading. It’s your favorite. The one with the dog-eared pages, crinkled spine, and well-worn cover. You’ve read it so many times, you know it by heart. Yet you still love it and…

    Top 5 Wednesday: Audiobooks

This Wednesday is all about your favorite audiobooks! Unfortunately, I don’t listen to audiobooks, because that takes the fun out of reading! To be honest, I’m not a very auditory person, so I have a hard time paying attention to someone just talking to me. Maybe in 2016 I’ll try out an audiobook, but for now I’m going to create my own topic and write about my favorite books involving audio (music, bands, instruments, etc.). 1. If I Stay by Gayle Forman The main character, Mia, was musical prodigy before a car accident changes her whole life. She has the choice to follow her parents or return to her boyfriend.…
